If you are thinking about whether to outsource web development to Pakistan, the questions are usually the same. What will it cost, how do I protect myself, and will the time difference get in the way? We are a small web team in Pakistan, so we see these questions from the other side. This is what we would tell a friend in the US or UK.

Why businesses outsource web development to Pakistan
Cost is usually the reason people start looking. Pakistan also has plenty of developers who work in English on the common platforms, such as WordPress, Shopify, PHP and JavaScript. For UK businesses, the time gap is short enough that your whole morning overlaps with a normal working day here.
It is not right for every project. If you need someone in your office every week, or the work depends on knowing your local market closely, a local firm will probably suit you better.
What it costs
There is no official price list, so treat any number you see as a rough guide. Directory listings give you a starting point. Looking through them in November 2026, we saw one Pakistani firm on Clutch listing $25 to $49 an hour and another on GoodFirms listing $50 to $99 an hour. These are examples, not market averages.
For a website or online store with a clear scope, a fixed price is often easier to manage than an hourly rate, because you know the total before you start. Our own starting prices are on our site if you want a comparison. Whoever you speak to, ask what is not included. The cheapest quote can turn out to be the most expensive once you add content, extra revisions and paid plugins.
What to put in the contract
You do not need a long document, but you do need these points in writing:
- Scope. The pages and features you are paying for, and what is left out.
- Price and milestones. What you pay at each stage, and what has to be finished before each payment.
- Ownership. That the work becomes yours once it is paid for in full. Third-party themes, plugins and fonts stay under their own licences.
- Accounts. That the domain, hosting and store accounts are in your name.
- Confidentiality. An NDA, if you are sharing anything sensitive or working under your own brand.
- Changes. How extra work gets priced and approved.
- Ending the project. What you pay for and what you receive if either side stops early.
- Governing law. Which country's law applies if there is a dispute.
Taking someone to court across borders is slow and expensive, so milestones protect you better in practice than clever legal wording. This is general guidance rather than legal advice. For a large project, ask a lawyer to read the contract.
How the time zones work in practice
Pakistan is on UTC+5 all year and does not change its clocks. That means the gap with the US and UK changes when their clocks do.
| City | Gap in winter | Gap in summer | 9am there, winter |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York | 10 hours | 9 hours | 7pm in Pakistan |
| London | 5 hours | 4 hours | 2pm in Pakistan |
| Dubai | 1 hour | 1 hour | 10am in Pakistan |
The gap is rarely the real problem. Bad communication is. Agree on a daily window for calls, ask for written updates, and make sure there is a private staging site where you can see progress for yourself. For US clients, a large gap can even help, because work finished during the day in Pakistan is ready when your morning starts.
How to pay from abroad
A bank wire works almost everywhere, though both banks may take a fee. Wise is usually cheaper, but its guide for Pakistan explains that residents cannot sign up directly, so you would normally send from your Wise account to a Pakistani bank account. Many Pakistani freelancers and agencies also use Payoneer. Whichever you choose, avoid paying the whole amount up front.
How to check a team before you hire them
- Open sites they have built on your own phone, and see how they load and work.
- Ask who will actually do the work, and speak to that person on a video call.
- Read their reviews on Clutch or GoodFirms, and ask whether you can speak to a past client.
- Ask whether the company is registered, for example with SECP or PSEB, if that matters to you.
- Start with a small paid task before you hand over a big project.
If you would like to talk it through, we have pages on how we work with businesses and agencies in the US and small businesses in the UK, or you can send us a message.
Common questions
Is it safe to outsource web development to Pakistan?
It can be, as it can with any country, if you check the team first. Look at live sites they have built, pay in milestones, and keep the domain, hosting and store accounts in your own name.
How much do developers in Pakistan charge per hour?
It varies a lot. On the directory listings we looked at in November 2026, one Pakistani firm listed $25 to $49 an hour and another $50 to $99. A fixed quote for a defined project is often easier to compare.
Who owns the code when I outsource?
Whoever your contract says. Make sure it says the work becomes yours once it is paid for in full, and ask which third-party themes and plugins are used, as those stay under their own licences.
